It Just Happened…
A short story about three families that had to start over. Edited.
Three families decided to go on vacation. All three families were strangers to each other. Because they were all going to visit the same island they were boarded on the small transport boat to take them to the island.
The families were friendly and cordial. And so the short trip started off smoothly. A half-mile out from the island the boat chugged to a complete halt. The engine stopped. There was only dead silence.
The three men of each family went to the front of the boat to check what happened. They were mystified at the fact there was no one at the helm. The captain and two shipmates were missing.
The three men moved deeper into the front of the boat and into the galley where packaged foods were arranged neatly and arrayed invitingly atop a small counter board in the tiny room. Snack trays and several platters of cheeses, grapes, and crackers wrapped in clear plastics were set beside several tin tubs of a variety of canned drinks laying on the ice. Cups, napkins, plates and flatware were there also.
Several cartons of bottled water and more cups and napkins were displayed in the small hallway. As the men investigated the boat from top to bottom, they were in silent awe of the missing crew and…
