Say It Ain’t So…
April, a single parent, accepted her daughter’s confession.
Emy Knazovic has invited us to try drabbles along with her. Since this is her first try, I am delighted to be invited to soar alongside her on this first flight.
A drabble is a short work of fiction of precisely one hundred words. The purpose of the drabble is brevity, testing the author’s ability to express interesting and meaningful ideas in a confined space. The drabble word is “guidance”.
“Momma, I need to tell you something,” the quite gentle child said to her mother.
April looked up into the eyes of her seventeen-year-old daughter, quickly detecting distraught and fear in them.
“Bass and I want to get married, Momma. This year.” Lauren pleaded, breathlessly.
“You’re pregnant aren't you, Lauren?” Pointed to the girl's belly, stood, and angrily walked toward her.
“With all my love and guidance, how could you?” she asked before interruption.
“Momma, we’re sorry.” Lauren wept profusely, dropping to her knees.
“ Okay, then. I’ll make your wedding gown. You can be married by December.”
