Part 4

This drabble responds to one of Grim Flandango’s daily word prompts (duvet).

Balthazar, the dragon rider, a solitary warrior — thrived in solitude, eschewing the company of others. He neither followed commands nor issued demands.

His companion, Lunara, the silverback dragon, was his antithesis in temperament.

Balthazar’s demeanor was a velvet duvet compared to her thistle-filled covering behavior.

She neighed and hissed, stomped, and breathed out flames when she was irate. Lunara shot scale darts from her claws, as she inflated her many horns along her neck, and atop her head.

Being female made it harder to tame than the human-loving bonding males. Her gender made her even more formidable.

Although she was a fire-spitting, unyielding wild creature, nothing like her docile kin, she was ever careful and thoughtfully gentle with Balthazar.

Fate brought Lunara and Balthazar together. As a boy, he ventured into the Northland mountains…
